Top 7 Things to Do at Cape Greco from a Boat

Cape Greco is one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in Cyprus — and the only way to properly experience it is from the water. A boat tour gives you access to sea caves, hidden coves, and cliffs that are completely unreachable by land. Here are the seven things you should not miss.

1. Explore the Sea Caves

The sea caves at Cape Greco are the most photographed natural feature on the east coast of Cyprus. The limestone cliffs have been carved by centuries of wave action into arches, tunnels, and caverns, some large enough for the boat to pass partially through.

From the water you can see the full scale of the formations — something that’s impossible from the clifftop path above. The light at midday turns the water inside the caves a brilliant emerald green, while the late afternoon glow turns everything gold.

Tip: Bring a waterproof phone case or action camera. The photo opportunities inside and around the sea caves are exceptional, especially when the boat slows down near the arch entrances.

2. Swim at Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon is the undisputed highlight of any Day Cruise to Blue Lagoon from Ayia Napa. The lagoon is a natural, sheltered bay within the Cape Greco National Park, with water so clear you can see the seabed at 4 metres. It’s the closest thing to a tropical lagoon you’ll find in the Mediterranean.

The boat anchors just inside the lagoon and drops a swim ladder. You can swim, float, snorkel, or simply sit on the swim platform with your feet in the water. The lagoon is naturally calm even when the open sea has a light chop, making it ideal for less confident swimmers.

Tip: Arrive at the lagoon early in the day if possible — before 11:00 AM it’s often quieter than later in the afternoon when multiple boats arrive simultaneously.

3. Try Cliff Diving

Cape Greco has a small number of locations where the rock platform sits at a diveable height above deep, clear water. These spots are accessible only from the sea — either by swimming from the boat or by the boat nudging close to the rock.

Entry heights range from around 3 metres to 6 metres, which is accessible to confident swimmers without specialist training. The water is deep enough directly beneath, with no underwater hazards at the known dive points. The crew on Ocean Queen’s day tours know the safe entry points and will indicate which spots are suitable.

Tip: Always check with the crew before diving. Conditions vary and not all cliff spots are accessible on every trip. Never dive into water you haven’t confirmed is clear from the surface.

4. Go Snorkelling

The seabed around Cape Greco is part of the national park and is one of the cleanest marine environments in Cyprus. The rocky bottom supports a variety of fish species, sea urchins, and — if you’re lucky — sea turtles, which are frequently spotted in the area.

Snorkelling equipment is provided on Ocean Queen’s tours and is included in the tour price. The best snorkelling spots are around the rock formations just outside the sea caves, where the seabed drops away and fish life is most abundant.

Tip: Wear reef-safe sunscreen when snorkelling in the national park. Standard chemical sunscreens are harmful to the marine ecosystem and their use is discouraged in protected areas.

5. Try Fishing off the Deck

The waters around Cape Greco are home to sea bream, bass, and — in certain seasons — larger pelagic species. While a standard day cruise isn’t a dedicated fishing charter, Ocean Queen can accommodate light fishing from the stern deck during anchor stops on some tours.

If fishing is your main interest, a private charter is a better fit, allowing you to focus time at the best spots and bring your own gear. The cape’s rocky seabed makes it excellent territory for bottom fishing, and the deeper water just off the headland is worth targeting.

Tip: Ask about fishing when booking. Some departures are more suited to it than others — the day cruise with a lunch stop at Blue Lagoon gives you natural anchor time to fish from the deck.

6. Anchor at Konnos Bay

Konnos Bay is a small, sheltered cove on the north side of Cape Greco, just a few minutes’ sailing from Blue Lagoon. It’s one of the few beaches on this coast accessible by boat — the road approach is steep and parking is very limited in summer.

From the water, Konnos is stunning: a narrow strip of golden sand backed by low cliffs, with turquoise water in the shallows and deep blue just beyond. Depending on the day’s itinerary, the boat may anchor here for a second swim stop before heading back to Ayia Napa harbour.

Tip: Konnos Bay is one of the few places on the east coast where you might see local wildlife, including migrating birds in spring and autumn. Look up as well as down.

7. Watch the Sunset from the Water

Cape Greco faces south and west, which means the light as the sun drops toward the horizon is extraordinary from a boat anchored offshore. The limestone cliffs catch the warm orange and pink light in a way that’s simply not visible from the clifftop path.

Ocean Queen’s day tours return to harbour before sunset, but the late afternoon light on the return leg is still beautiful. If sunset is your priority, a dedicated sunset cruise that stays on the water through golden hour will give you the full experience.

Tip: The optimal position for watching the Cape Greco sunset from the water is south of the headland, facing west. The boat’s return route on the evening cruise is timed to pass this point at the right moment — ask the captain about it when you board.

How to See Cape Greco by Boat

The best way to experience all seven of these activities in a single day is on a day cruise from Ayia Napa. Ocean Queen departs daily from Ayia Napa harbour and covers the Cape Greco coastline, Blue Lagoon, and sea caves in a 4-hour tour. Lunch, drinks, and snorkelling equipment are included.

Book direct to save around 15% compared to hotel booking desks and aggregator platforms. Spaces are limited — July and August dates fill up fast.
